Pride in Practice – excellence in lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans healthcare

GP practices in Bradford and district are being offered an exciting opportunity to make their services more lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) friendly.

Pride in Practice is a new programme that strengthens and develops the relationships that primary care services have with LGBT+ patients. It enables these services to link and utilise assets available in the community.

Pride in Practice has been developed in response to feedback from LGBT+ people about how important it is for them to be open and honest about their sexual orientation with their health professionals. The aim of the programme is to enable GP practices to provide a fully inclusive service and improve patient experience.

These assets include working closely with community leader volunteers who give valuable insight and lived experience to ensure services hear and are influenced by the patient voice and promote greater public involvement.

GP practices will also have access to training around LGBT+ inclusion. This includes information on how to provide appropriate services and support, along with myth busting and confidence building with staff.

The Bradford district and Craven clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) are funding GP practices to participate in the programme.
