Local pharmacies are open over Christmas and New Year
GPs are reminding people in Bradford district and Craven that they can still access expert health advice when GP practices are closed over the upcoming Christmas break.
Some pharmacies in the area will be open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. People can drop into a pharmacy for advice about medicines and minor illnesses. Minor illnesses can include things like an upset tummy, colds, coughs, aches and pains. If symptoms suggest that it is anything more serious, pharmacists are trained to make sure people get the help they need.
Dr James Thomas, GP and clinical chair for Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “For common health conditions pharmacists are a really good place go to get the right health advice, fast. You can just walk in for advice without the need to book an appointment. Many pharmacies also offer a confidential consultation room to discuss issues privately.
“There are some pharmacies open in our area on the bank holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as well as the weekends in between. Pharmacists are fully qualified healthcare professionals who offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for lots of common minor illnesses.”
