Self-care and prevention

Self-care is all about giving you the knowledge and skills to look after your own health and wellbeing. Having ownership and responsibility of your health and care will enable you to keep as well as possible and help prevent serious illness – allowing you to make the best out of life! But don’t worry, self-care does not mean that you need to manage on your own without any help from a health professional.

The self-care continuum (below) shows the sliding scale of self-care – starting with people taking individual responsibility in making daily choices about their lifestyle to when responsibility for care is entirely in the hands of healthcare professionals. It is important to remember that NHS services in Bradford are there to support you at any point of the continuum. If you do have symptoms that persist or you are worried about your health, you should seek advice from your GP, pharmacist or NHS 111.
