New face for Bradford’s Clinical Commissioning Groups

NHS Bradford City and NHS Bradford Districts Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) have welcomed a new face to their governing bodies.

Bryan Millar has been appointed as new lay member for finance. Bryan brings a wealth of financial governance experience with him, having worked in the NHS since 1977 in a variety of roles within Yorkshire and the North East of England.

After holding a number of posts with District and Regional Health Authorities, Bryan joined Northgate and Prudhoe Trust becoming their Director of Finance and Performance Management in 1993.

He became Director of Finance at Bradford Community Health NHS Trust in 1999 before moving to Bradford South and West PCT, where he was Director of Finance and Deputy Chief Executive. He joined the Foundation Trust in October 2005.

Bryan is the former Chief Executive of Bradford Teaching Hospitals, a past Board member of Health Education England, Yorkshire and the Humber (and past chair of its Finance, Governance and Risk Committee.)

A fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, he has previously served as Chair of the Local Comprehensive Research Network Partnership Group and Director of Medipex (an intellectual property company and NHS innovation hub.)

Bryan and his wife Carol live in Burley in Wharfedale and have two grown up children. He enjoys walking in the local countryside and is a keen music fan, playing the guitar. Born and brought up in Newcastle upon Tyne, he remains a life-long Newcastle United fan!

Bryan said: “I am delighted to be joining both Bradford CCGs, having spent the last 15 years of my NHS career working in the city.

“I hope my experience and enthusiasm can help me make a contribution to the work of both organisations and I'm proud and excited to be able to continue my association with the NHS in Bradford through my appointment to these lay member roles.”

Dr Akram Khan, clinical chair of NHS Bradford City CCG said: “I and my fellow members of the governing body are delighted to have Bryan on board. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the CCG.”

Dr Andy Withers, clinical chair of NHS Bradford Districts CCG added: “Bryan is a welcome member of the team and we look forward to working with him. He will strengthen the robustness of our decision making as we commission services which will address the health needs of local people.”
